About
North County's Food Bank
This past year, North Countys Food Bank worked with 97 Community Partner Agencies to distribute well over 1.5 million pounds of food. Food donated from grocers, farmers, and wholesalers, and through food drives conducted by schools, businesses, and churches provided over 1.3 million meals to over 236,334 individuals last year.
Hunger has touched thousands of families impacted by job losses as a result of the economic downturn which began in 2008. During July-December of 2009, the Food Bank program saw a 79% increase in demand for food. Since that time, demand has remained at an all-time high for North Countys Food Bank
In March of 2011, NCCS was awarded a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to research food insecurity in the region and create a plan for a Hunger Free North County. We expect the research and plan to be completed by March of 2012.
